But for Thon, there will be no donations through canning. In years past, as many as four canning weekends were held in the fall. Thon is the largest student-run philanthropic enterprise in the world, in terms of both revenue and numbers of volunteers. The hour Thon will include more than students dancing and staying on their feet for the weekend.
There are also kids' fashion and talent shows, an athlete hour and pep rally and a family hour recognizing Four Diamonds families. Thon benefits the Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Hospital, which supports about children with cancer each year - newly diagnosed and continuing their fight. It covers percent of expenses related to cancer that is not covered by families' insurance. Thon funds cover treatment costs for more than 3, students, along with research on childhood cancer at Penn State Children's Hospital.
