The local community board and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, who represents this district, complained that the phones had become an eyesore. I fail to understand the nostalgia around outdoor phone booths. It has been some time since I stepped in to one of these booths, but when I did the stench was so foul I had to step right back out. There are four remaining outdoor phone booths in Manhattan.
