After Hiro uses his ability to save a falling Ando, it backfires, freezing him instead of everything else. When Hiro wakes up, he reveals to Ando that he is dying. He then accidentally teleports back fourteen years to when he, Ando and Kimiko visited the Sullivan Bros. Carnival in Tokyo. There, he meets Samuel , who convinces Hiro that he can use his powers to change small events in the timeline without negative consequences.
To demonstrate this, Samuel pushes the adult Hiro in front of a slushy that originally landed on Kimiko, meaning that, because Kimiko never had a reason to dislike Ando, the two would fall in love and get engaged. Hiro becomes convinced that it is his mission to fix all the mistakes he has made in his life before he dies.
After returning to the present and saving Tadashi , Hiro unexpectedly teleports to Peter 's apartment in Manhattan and collapses. Hiro spends the next few days in a hospital, but vanishes back to the past again when he realizes that he has left Charlie off his bucket list.
On October 10, , the Hiro from tries a new approach to saving Charlie. He meets with Sylar , and tells him that he will tell him what happens to him in the future if he uses intuitive aptitude and telekinesis to remove the aneurysm in Charlie's brain.
Sylar agrees and saves the dying Charlie, so Hiro tells Sylar that he will die alone and leaves him to continue on his journey. However, before Hiro can bring Charlie to the present, she is taken away by Arnold and hidden somewhere in time.
Samuel uses the knowledge of Charlie's whereabouts to blackmail Hiro into working for him. Hiro's first errand for Samuel is saving a Coyote Sands film from destruction and Mohinder Suresh from death eight weeks prior. Hiro completes his task, gives the film to Samuel, and puts Mohinder in a psychiatric hospital. When Lydia comes to Hiro to seek his help in finding out what really happened to Joseph , Hiro teleports them both back in time, where they witness Joseph's death firsthand.
Returning to the present, Hiro threatens Samuel with the truth, so Samuel has Damien scramble Hiro's mind into a sort of "fanboy soup". The mind-scrambled Hiro returns to Japan, where he tells Ando that they must rescue " Dr. Watson ". Ando works out what he means, and the two rescue Mohinder from the hospital. Seeing Hiro's confused state, Mohinder recommends that Ando uses his ability on Hiro as a form of electroshock therapy. It is a success, and Hiro begins to speak coherently.
Unfortunately, his brain tumor is still worsening, and he is rushed into surgery to have the tumor removed. The operation is a success, and Hiro is cured.
Before leaving the hospital, he meets an older Charlie, who he discovers has led a full life of her own since Arnold took her to They say their farewells, and Hiro teleports himself and Ando to the Sullivan Bros. Carnival at Noah 's request. Once there, Ando supercharges Hiro, enabling him to teleport all of Samuel's carnies away, removing the source of his power.
Hiro and Ando return to the carnival after Samuel's arrest, where they walk away and decide that it is time go to home. Hiro discovers he has the ability to actually affect the space-time continuum , slowing time down to such a point it seems as if it is stopped with sheer power of will.
The first noted occurrence is when Hiro supposedly made a subway train late using this power. This is especially notable because a Japanese train being late at all is an extremely unlikely event. Later, he theorizes that he may soon be able to teleport by bending the space part of the continuum. Although this isn't seen, he does seem to teleport from the seating area of a Karaoke bar to a ladies' bathroom on a dare said in jest by Ando. While he is on a train he stares at a poster of New York, accidentally teleporting himself to Times Square.
However, at the same time he unintentionally moves five weeks into the future. Later, when an explosion threatens his life, he is able to teleport back to Japan, landing at the exact time and place of his original departure. Although being able to teleport and time travel great lengths at once, Hiro apparently had little control over how much time elapses when he teleports.
This shows that, without further honing of his powers, he may not be able to teleport great distances without also traveling in time. He has also frozen time relative to himself. He was able to keep time frozen long enough to fold one thousand paper cranes. Six Months Ago. Hiro's rules of time travel haven't yet been explicitly defined.
Whether he changes time just by traveling, or whether it's more of a ripple effect is not known. It should be noted that it appears Hiro's time-traveling powers may not supersede the principles of the self-consistency theory. This essentially states that a time traveler cannot alter history in such a way that he would cause a paradox to occur; rather, the events would self-correct.
However, it seems Hiro's powers are controlled by " fate ", as not only were his powers disabled at one point, but he traveled in both time and space against his will. This appears to be contradictory to Future Hiro 's statement that he risked creating a " rift ", as well as his existence being proof that he is trying to prevent the catastrophe. Hiro's ability was stolen by Arthur Petrelli in , who had time traveled back from using the same power gained by his son.
Arthur died after his return to ; leaving present-day Hiro trapped in the past before he was rescued by Ando and Daphne. Hiro claimed his trip to India was the key to regaining his lost powers, however, it turned out that his destiny was to be a hero without powers. Hiro has regained his ability thanks to Matt Parkman Jr.

If Ando had simply explained to Daphne that the formula will destroy the world and that her boss is probably planning to do so Ando is working when Hiro comes running declaring he has a power.
Ando is doesn't believe him and goes back to watching Niki on webcam. After work him and Hiro go to a bar where Ando suggests Hiro should use his ability to get into the woman's restroom. Even when Hiro does it, Ando doesn't believe. When Hiro arrives in the future, it is Ando he calls for help, who explains Hiro has been gone for several weeks. The two fly to Los Angeles and then drive to Las Vegas. In Vegas, Ando convinces Hiro to cheat at gambling. When they anger the wrong people the two are beaten up and dumped off at a diner.
Ando blames Hiro for their troubles and leaves him and goes to Niki Sanders 's house. When she tells him to leave, he returns to Hiro to continue their journey. On their way to leave, they are confronted by the high roller they cheated who enlists them in helping him cheat.
During the game, a woman comes and kills the other players as Hiro and Ando escape. As they leave Las Vegas, they see a car accident. After Hiro saves the woman and the man Ando chats with the man's kid. Continuing on to New York, they stop at a diner in Midland, TX and meet a waitress who is then killed.
Hiro goes back in time to save her, leaving Ando to wait for him in the Diner. The next day, Ando meets Peter, who has come to the diner, as he waits for Hiro to return. When Hiro returns a day later, he is disappointed because he failed to save Charlie. The two travel to Union Wells High School and arrive too late to save the cheerleader , but instead meet Isaac.
The next day, when the two go to retrieve their rental car, they are kidnapped by a strange man who offers them plane tickets back to Japan , which Ando is impressed by, but Hiro refuses. They are taken to meet Hiro's father.
Afterwards, they return to Las Vegas where they attempt to assist a showgirl named Hope. While Hiro doesn't want to go through with it, Ando disagrees and attempts to help her himself.
Ando leaves with Hope, driving her to Primm, NV. Hope's ex-boyfriend shows up and fires a gun at Ando, but Hiro saves him with his power. Back in Las Vegas, Ando, who went against Hiro's wishes to go back to Japan, saves Hiro, allowing him to steal the sword he has been after. As Corinthian guards arrive to stop them, Hiro teleports the two into the future.
While looking at pictures the two are confronted by Hiro from the future. Hiro learns that in this future, Ando was killed in the explosion. They return to the present day in Isaac's apartment where they find its owner dead. The two hide from the man in the room, but when the man hears Ando gulp, Hiro teleports them out of the apartment. They follow the man to his mother's apartment , contemplating killing him. They try, but fail, breaking the sword. After they get it fixed, Hiro trains with his father, while Ando leaves to kill Sylar himself.
However, Sylar catches Ando by surprise and starts to cut his neck. Hiro comes to his rescue, taking Ando back to Japan, leaving him there, telling his friend that he must finish the journey on his own.
Ando is now an assistant for Kaito Nakamura. He is present when Kaito receives his death threat and later witnesses his murder. He is interviewed by Matt Parkman and explains the symbol 's meaning.
Sam tells them that there is only one last copy of 9th Wonders! They find the last copy, and discover that Hiro is stuck 16 years in the past as Arthur Petrelli has taken Hiro's powers. The three come to the conclusion that the only way to save Hiro is to find another time-traveler.
Ando volunteers himself to take an experimental formula to give him the ability to manipulate space and time so he can save Hiro. In " Dual ", Daphne steals a dose of the formula from Mohinder, and gives it to Ando. Ando manifests the ability to "super charge" the abilities of others, which he uses on Daphne to allow her to run faster than the speed of light, enabling time travel per Einstein's Theory of Relativity.
They rescue Hiro from the past, saving Hiro from an untimely death at the hands of his father but likewise preventing Hiro from destroying the formula. Nevertheless, Hiro is able to steal the formula in the present with Daphne's help and the group celebrates as he destroys it. Hiro has bought an abandoned fire station as their headquarters. Ando leaves Hiro frustrated after he's injected with a GPS device and feels that Hiro is trying to live through him since he has lost his powers.
Later, Ando hears Hiro being kidnapped by Nathan's agents through the phone. Daphne arrives in Japan to find Hiro and Ando to talk about Matt's disappearance. Daphne and Ando go to Arkansas and see the plane's crash site. After Daphne appears to have been killed and Claire uses herself as a shield, Ando, Mohinder, Matt, and Hiro escape and meet up with Peter.
In " Building 26 ", once in India, Hiro and Ando realize that they must save a local girl, Annapoora, from being married against her will.
At first Ando uses his red glow as the sign she was looking for, but he "steals" Hiro's chance to recover his powers and also he ends up being kidnapped by the groom to force Annapoora into marriage. Finally, Hiro realizes that he does not need powers to be a hero, as he saved the girl without them, getting Ando back too. Later they discover that this is actually the son of the Matt Parkman they know, and also discover the baby possesses the ability to touch things and make them "go".
Ando shows that his acquired ability can also be used as an offensive weapon when he channels the energy outward to hit one of the pursuing agents, before Hiro manages to stop time with his redeveloped ability.
Hiro carries baby Matt and a paralized Ando to safety. They finally manage to track down Matt Sr. Hiro ends up saving Matt, and then he meets his son for the first time, giving Matt a reason to live again.
Although he refuses, as Hiro manages to not freeze him, Hiro still keeps his plan going on, unfreezing the agents so they can take down Ando, and then freezing everybody again so he can take an agent's place as they carry Ando to the "Building 26". Once in motion, Ando is awoken by Hiro so he can be ready for action, but when an agent realizes Hiro is not one of them, Ando shoots a big blast of red lightning, affecting everyone and saving Hiro.
As plan B, they use the GPS signal of the agents to track the place, and once they are ready to fight, Hiro tries to freeze time, but instead he receives an strong headache and nosebleed as they realize he can't use his ability anymore. Ando is then seen aidding Hiro. In " An Invisible Thread ", because of Hiro's condition, Ando plans to enter "Building 26" by himself, but Hiro recovers and insists on continuing with the plan despite the danger.
Hiro stops time and both break in to free the trapped prisoners, including Mohinder, Noah and Danko, and replace the drugged evolved humans with all of the "Building 26" staff. Once time is going, Hiro and Ando show the freed prisoners the way out.
Ando asks Mohinder to check out Hiro, finding out his body is rejecting his powers and he should stop using them. Later, Ando, along with Hiro, witness the burning of Sylar's really James Martin body and then both decide to return home. During the first two volumes, Ando is a normal human with no abilities. In the opening episode of the third season, " The Second Coming ", Hiro Nakamura travels into the future and witnesses Ando using an ability described by the writers simply as "red lightning".
He demonstrates this unintentionally by boosting the range of Matt Parkman's telepathy to cover all of New York City and increasing Daphne Millbrook's super speed to such an extent that she is able to break the spacetime barrier.
In the episode " Cold Snap ", Ando learns to use his power offensively, channeling his energy into powerful bolts from his hands after having contact with Baby Matt Parkman. As seen later in " I Am Sylar ", Ando has managed to produce and control a major amount of energy as he attacks agents inside a van with a heavy blast without damaging Hiro or the van itself.
